L.A. S.F. and Oakland Do Arizona a Favor
Friday, May 14th, 2010Author Mike Rough
According to news reports the city council of Los Angeles overwhelmingly approved a boycott of Arizona-based businesses and governments Wednesday unless the state repeals a new law giving police the power to question a detainee’s immigration status.
I find this move by a extremely amusing from many angles that are obviously lost on Los Angeles and the rest of California.
“Los Angeles financial analyst Gerry Miller says the mayor’s budget plan is counting on revenue that has not yet materialized—leasing 10 city parking garages and borrowing against future parking meter income.”

I guess they could try to pay non Arizona businesses in quarters, nickels and dimes, but more likely will be nickel and diming any vendors or businesses extending credit to the city of angels. According to the next statement the wishing well is bone dry and the lining stones licked of any financial moisture.
“The city faces a projected $492 million budget deficit for the next fiscal year.”
Source Associated Press
“The city’s legislative analyst reported that Los Angeles currently has $56 million in contracts with companies headquartered in Arizona. The city’s Harbor Department, which has $26 million of such contracts, is opposing the resolution, the report said. This includes money for the “Clean Truck Program,” it said.”

Good News! Los Angeles just cut the deficit by $56 Million dollars by boycotting Arizona! While environmentalists decry the loss of pollution stingy vehicle modifications the total pollution offset is the same since the city can’t afford to man the vehicles let alone pay for the fuel run them.
“This follows in the wake of other California cities like Oakland and San Francisco adopting resolutions of requesting that city departments refrain from traveling or doing business with companies or businesses in Arizona.”

Oakland… Right now they couldn’t budget themselves out of a wet paper sack let alone the deficit they are currently sporting.
“Oakland’s image as a tough, blue-collar city is getting even tougher as the city faces a $42-million deficit and other financial problems.”

“Oakland City Councilwoman Pat Kernighan was upset when the council refused to ask staff to prepare a report on the impending budget woes. “If that doesn’t happen, you guys are crazy and irresponsible!” she exclaimed.”
Source San Francisco Chronicle
When would the city council have found the time to talk about the budget when they were so busy creating and passing resolutions against Arizona and it’s businesses which they, like Los Angeles could not have paid for services rendered anyway?
Rice O Roni the San Francisco Treat! Currently the city of San Francisco wouldn’t be allowed to sniff a box of the cheap tasty rice with the amount of debt they are carrying… Just barely under the tally of Los Angeles at $483 million dollars.
“Right now, San Francisco is struggling to close a $483 million deficit, and most of the public employee unions — including those representing Municipal Transportation Agency workers — are supporting a plan for voluntary givebacks to save $200 million. But Muni’s 2,220 bus and rail operators in Transport Workers Union Local 250-A are due to get an automatic $9 million annual raise starting July 1. And in February they voted down a $15 million concession request.
Muni operators enjoy remarkably self-serving work rules that allow them to be absent without notice and still collect overtime for the week. The transit agency is barred from hiring part-timers or splitting shifts to cover peak commute hours, which creates pointless costs for overtime and midday standby operators.”

Sounds like the San Francisco needs to worry about their own transit issues rather than shovel dirt on Arizona for attempting to take care of their transient illegals.
In the end all the boycotts and resolutions in the world against Arizona by California or its cities won’t be able to dispel the image of a spoiled child holding their breath because in their minds the other kids aren’t playing fair. Couple that image with the reek of decay brought on by a socialist minded state mentality of entitlement and you can see and smell the bloated corpse of California all the way to Arizona.

The fiscal problems and California and almost every other state in the country are caused by the rich not paying their fair share in taxes. the rich are parasites that are leeching off of the rest of us.

If only it was that easy. Let’s tax people more. If you look at the root of the budget shortfalls in almost every city in California the cities themselves are to blame hand in hand with the unionized workers. What is happening with automatic mandatory raises forced by layoffs which force more layoffs is absolute lunacy. Take also into account the issue of the overtaxing of the healthcare and social services of California by undocumented residents and you get a serious liberal stew that is a self perpetuating financial cesspool. Once you have eaten all the cake the only thing left is what comes out the other end, and right now in California there is not a crumb to be found.

Kudos to libhomo for the sarcasm, but we already know that the top one percent of income earners pay 20% of all income taxes; the top five percent pay about 40% of all income taxes, and the bottom 50% of all incomes pay less than 4% of all income taxes.
California has yet to figure out that you can’t spend your way to fiscal success. Nor can you tax your way there, either. Probably oughta do a name change to Oopsie.

ROTFLMAO
Kudos to Arizona for ditching Californian socialistic tendencies. Regardless of whether you agree with Arizona’s new law or not, California is not judge, jury, and executioner sent by God Himself to protect the world, especially not from itself. Arizona businesses would probably have gotten stiffed anyways.

I read that San Diego has lost around $10 million from cancelled conventions which would have come from Arizona.
The Arizona governor offered to set up to renegotiate the electric poweer deal for the southern California folks. Arizona would be quite willing to refrain from exporting electrons to California…
