NAACP Calling the TEA PARTY Racist

The NAACP during its 101’st annual convention has passed a resolution condemning racism in the Tea Party movement. This statement alone is an indicator of just how far out of touch the NAACP is in it’s antiquated thinking and reactionary tactics.

“We take no issue with the Tea Party. We believe in freedom of assembly and people raising their voices in a democracy,” Ben Jealous, president and CEO of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, said in a statement.

“We take issue with the Tea Party’s continued tolerance for bigotry and bigoted statements. The time has come for them to accept the responsibility that comes with influence and make clear there is no space for racism and anti-Semitism and other forms of bigotry in their movement,” Jealous said.

Based on statement’s made by Congressman Jim Lewis, Emanuel Cleaver, and Barney Frank proclaiming the racist word “Nigger”, and homophobic word “Faggot” were shouted at them multiple times by “Tea Party” protestors, and spit upon by activists protesting the Health Care Bill.

The only part of the incidents that purportedly took place is the spitting incident. Police did arrest one man, who as to date has not been identified or have charges pressed against him. Watching the video of the incident and of Congressman Cleaver going back to the scene of the incident with a law enforcement representative it does not seem that he is as upset as he should be if he were truly spat upon. There is something about being hit with hork of spit, that at a primal level, typically unhinges an individual. Gauging his reaction Congressman Cleaver likely he was sprayed with the froth of rage emitted by an upset, but semi dry mouthed protestor to whom he got much too close to. Having had a few face to face discussions with upset people, I too have experienced inconsequential spittle spray. Nothing to call the police about, but definitely a primal indicator that you are much too close for your own safety.

Spitting, or hurling insults and epitaphs is not appropriate at any time in my opinion. When the social contracts we in the normal course of interaction obey are violated by gross acts of phlegmy discharge, or utterances that would cause give you pause if said to your mother, it’s time to rethink where, and how the participants got to that point in the first place.

Regarding the racial and homophobic slurs there is zero evidence. Zero. I have spent hours in the previous months trying to find a single clip, audio or video showing or featuring a single racial or homophobic utterance during this event. In this age of instant media, and knowing that there had to be thousands of cel phone cams, video cams, digital cams, not too mention professional journalists present, not one of these people has captured, or came forward to say they personally heard these words said. The chances of there being a Zapruder film of the incident are extremely high, and if it was captured, the footage would be worth it’s weight in gold, making the news for weeks. The majority of words heard on 99% of the video footage are “Kill The Bill!” over and over. If anyone might have opportunity to be offended it may be former President Clinton as he was one of the major proponents of health care reform during his administration. As of yet however he remains silent on the chant.

Historically speaking, in 1980 where there was very little in the form of personal recording devices, the heckling of Ronald Reagan was caught on tape. I would like to add that President Reagan handles the situation beautifully:

Back to the NAACP and their resolution. If a mature organization that has been around for over a century has nothing better to do than bombast in the form of semi censure, an act that in all probability did not occur as stated, it is time for them to rethink the name of the organization because the attitudes and intellect are not in fact advancing colored people on a national level but portraying them as whining 5 year olds who heard that someone called them a name.

The NAACP appears to be suffering from “mission completion”; what do you do when your reason for existence has essentially disappeared? How do you justify spending man-years of resources on problems that have been solved, or nearly so?

The March of Dimes faced this problem; polio was eradicated decades ago, and nearly no one contracts this disease anymore. They solved the problem by “mission creep”, going from “stamp out polio” to “curing childhood diseases”, or some such.

The NAACP has hit the same problem; discrimination against black people has nearly disappeared in America, but then how do you justify the struggle? Claiming it is still prevalent, despite a vanishing body of evidence, is desperation. Trying to create new “enemies” from those who essentially ignore you is more. Once this settles in, I expect a further drop in public support and fundraising for the NAACP; a sad end to a once-noble organization.

Success is fatal to activism; no one is excited because there’s nothing to get excited about anymore. Isn’t that what they wanted to begin with?

I remember some of the issues addressed by the NAACP, back in the MLK era. The congressional Black Caucus was much the same.

Times change. I guess it was some fifteen years or so back that I first heard Limbaugh refer to the NAALCP, inserting “Liberal”–and quite accurately.

Once the Left was allowed to define reality for the two primary ethnic minorities, the quality of life for them began its downward slide. Note also that by refusing the Left’s definition, Asians have done well.

  3. Thank you Mike for writing an article on this topic.
When I heard this today, I could not believe it. Crud like this really sends me for a loop, because I don’t understand how they can go on so about our “rhetoric and lies” and then put out BLATANTLY false information and get away with it. It is like they are pandering to a group of people who really never come close to a fact-based reality.
On another post, some “hater” jumped on me for believing in our founding fathers and their intentions for “Free men and self government”. His arguement was something like, “Did you forget women didn’t get the vote till this century, etc.” Suggesting I should hate wealthy white men becasue their original intent was pure discrimination and meanness against me. I responded that had Adams, or Franklin or Madison not been able to define their desired freeedoms, how would I know what to ask for? It was a starting point.

The NAACP has turned into a big bully, throwing their weight around, doing just what they accuse the “other guy” of doing.
I also get sick of all the calls to “Repudiate” this or that. As though that means anything. I am especially saddened by the fact that good people of all races who if they looked at the TEA parties could see the good that is really going on in them, won’t.

Good comment Rat. The Asian community never looked to the government to provide. They just set about providing(education and hard work) for their futures, so did the Hispanic immigrants of 30-40 years ago.

  4. Good on all three of you. We all looked for evidence of insults and epithets and there was none. Walking past the crowd instead of through the tunnel was done deliberately in the hope of provoking unseemly behavior. As for the “spitting” incident, I recall that this WAS caught on tape, and was not, of course “spitting.” As we all know there are certain movements which trigger saliva, and I, at least, have had one of those awkward way when a tiny spray comes out. Here’s an odd bit of info you may need sometime. If you ever need a rush of saliva, move your tongue back and forth rapidly behind your upper teeth. I have no idea why that will cause you to salivate, but try it. It works.

  5. I still say I will give up my “right” to vote the moment we revert to the true intent of the founding fathers. Of course it didn’t occur to them that women should vote any more than we think we should be able to teleport. The INTENTION was that ONLY those who owned property outright should be allowed to vote primarily to prevent just the sort of mess we have now. They didn’t realize that people with nothing better to do than write laws for 225 years will do so; they expected few and rare bills and those to deal with taxes and tariffs. I do not have to be able to vote to make my thoughts known and I even do well with paternalistic men. There are few of those still around. If we are gentle and patient, in time they come to adopt our ideas, as Martha, Betsy, and Abigail probably knew.

I had a long post related to this issue, but I deleted it, it unfortunatly would not be politically correct, But I could write a book on this issue, but it would not solve anyting. So I wil just let the NAACP continue to oppress thier own agenda.

  8. The “progressives” have made the term “racist” meaningless, by applying the term to people who are not racists and not using it to describe real racists.
I saw a Youtube vid of the NBPP party trying to make a statement/protest in Pasadena TX. in 2007 it just warmed my heart. These panthers were shouted down by the crowd chanting USA and POW/MIA motorcyclist revving the engine. To bad all those TV cameras and journalists were unable to hear what the Black panthers had to say.

  9. Sounds like great fun, Lynne. Steve, you’re home, honey, be as politically incorrect as you feel like! I think I just talked myself into a Great Pyrenees puppy for a guard dog. I suppose so because mentally I’ve already named him “Rodrigo.” Can’t you just SEE me exclaiming, steely eyed, “Rodrigo! On Guard!” Rodrigo sits smartly, looks alert, and growls menacingly.

Hey, the bad guy won’t know that Rodrigo learned from having the behavior modeled for him and expects a tidbit and “Good dog!”

Seriously, it can be done. Just get down on the floor and say his name (Always, first the name, then the command), “On Guard” (or “butterflies,” for all I care), and then growl. Eventually he’ll growl, so give him a yumyum.

  10. Oldmanriver says:

    Linda,

I sincerely hope that you excessively roll your R’s when you pronounce Rodrigo…it just makes imagining it much more fun.

  11. There are two factors that really surprised me about the incident one of which Linda mentioned. The first is that the congressmen walked over to the vote when they could have gone underground, and that they allowed the protesters such close access to the situation. In cities like Chicago and New York during conventions and other gatherings our citizens are rounded up like cattle and put in a designated protest area that is usually blocks away from the area which the gathering being protested is held.

  12. Linda, Congrats on your new “industrial strength” dog:) I’ve been looking at getting a slightly larger dog as well. Don’t get me wrong I love my Pekes and I know they won’t give up. But they are about as intimidating as a Hostess Twinkie!!
I’m leaning toward a bull terrier, bulldog or a pit bull/boxer cross, or perhaps a chow, I like mutts. Plus I need a dog that can do well just romping in the yard and not need a walk everyday if I can’t manage it. I like German shepards, I’m just afraid I can’t give him enough excercise to work off all that energy to make him happy.

  13. But of course with rolled rrrrr’s and and leaving out the e. “Erroad-RRRREEEE-go!” But clipped, because that fifty or sixty pounds of fluff is going to guard an empire. A very small empire. Do they still teach students to say “pot of petunias” to learn to roll the R?

Ektually, if you want a GUARD dog who will take himself very seriously and KNOWS he as bred to guard temples and his empress, Lynnie, go with a Lhasa Apso. She-tzus are smaller and so indiscriminate they love everyone, but Lhasas tend to be very much one-person dogs, and they do not regard weighing 22 pounds as a limiting factor. Part of it, perhaps,is that a male has to be really tough to wear satin bows on his ears…but probably not. Dogs who wear bows and bandanas are proud of them.

Lhasas are incredibly strong for their size, have very sharp teeth, can have absolutely vile tempers when it comes to what they consider intruders, and there is no quit in them whatsoever. I was Nefer’s goddess, and he loved my daughter. He was partial to teen-aged girls I vouched for…and he detested men. And boys, and strangers.

NOBODY other than Tiffany or the maid was allowed in my bedroom.

Workmen were considered to have a one-time pass. If they went out to their trucks they had to receive approval from his Empress again. In the 17 years I had him we never had one of those mysterious burglaries that occur after the washing machine is repaired or new ‘phone jacks are put in. Nefer didn’t go for that “Nice doggy, you remember me,” jazz and he was trained–as all dogs should be–not to take beefsteaks from strangers. He could have been shot with a tranquilizer gun, but he would have been barking his head off and leaping up trying to get hunks of anyone who dared to invade his domain. A very satisfactory dog! His idea of sheer bliss was for me to go to bed with my book, iced tea, and ashtray, so he could get on my waterbed, chunk his little rear end into my left side, and sleep peacefully, knowing I was safe. Oh, I loved that cantankerous, suspicious, valiant little dog…

He was as vain as a matador or a French court dandy, and he adored going to the groomer. The last year of his life I had him picked up twice a week so he could spend the day at the shop and come home fluffy and beautiful. He had earned his retirement, and a “bath only” ran ten bucks.

Problem on a ranch is, there are too many big animals and big vehicles driven by men who aren’t expecting small dogs to dash out, but for home defense in the city I’d look into a Lhasa. What WERE we talking about when we got off dogs?! I’m sitting here watching my living room extension go up, hurrah, hurrah. I’ve been waiting 15 months to see those rafters. One of the few things wrong with being able to do almost anything yourself is accumulating the right personnel…

  14. “One of the few things wrong with being able to do almost anything yourself is accumulating the right personnel…”

Let’s face it, none of us can do it all. That’s part of why God made us social creatures. Time was when a person needed a new extension, or a whole new barn, there was a social event called a barn raiser, and the neighbors all came over and helped. When they needed help, you were there for them as well. We all need a decent set of neighbors. Too few of those around anymore I’m afraid.

  15. Now Linda don’t make exceptions for me. I am running Pekes do you think a lhasa apso can do more than the pekes? You know me but what if?.
It doesn’t mater if I am handipped on protection. What is,is. I’ll deal with that attack, Just bring a lunch and a lantern cause you will have a fight. I don’t want a fight, I hope others will walk away from any fights.
I think I can cover myself I’m pretty good medic plus I’m brewing beer and wine, learning herbal meds. I know I will have to prove my worth outside of baking bread, brewing beer and making wine.
My Mom is the badest “motorscootor” out there. Yes she has a tredle sewing machine and 2 electrically powerd ones. She’s got chickens and a garden. A RV and a camper, and is bulding up food stocks for herself but for the idiot kids as well.

  16. Steve Foste says:

I think I may make a small contribution to the Tea Party.

I was haveing a conversation with a customer of mine, a fabricator in the Electical infratracture, who before the depression was quite successful. And with that success had contributed pretty heavily to the Republican Party and had been quite involved.

Well the politico’s had come knocking at his door this past week looking for new donations. And the jist of the conversation went as such.

For what reason do you need the contribution?

So we can get the Democrates out of office!

Why do you want the Democrates out of office?

Their tax and spend policies are out of control.

So what makes you different? What are you going to do to help me the small business man?

We’ll we have programs for green energy which will directly affect your business.

Who’s money are you going to use push this Green energy. How are you going to get the private industry engaged and produce growth. The only game in town for the last two years has been government money. My largest client over the last year and half has spent exactly zero dollars on infrastructure. Did you hear that Zero dollars of private investment capital.

WE’ll it’s the Democrates we must get them out of office.

Sir’s we don’t care who is in office, you are all liars and cheats, you are lieing to me now. Your only agenda is to defeat the Democrates for your own power and control, you have no agenda for what is right, truthful, and have a complete disregard for the constitution and I don’t belive a word you are saying.

    Please vacate my office.

Personally I loath to make contributions to political parties, but since the NAACP put their foot in the door of the Tea Party, I will make the contribution out of spite.

Serendipity strikes again. The Reverend Manning on this subject:

  18. Steve,

You are on the money. An example of relativism. (Different than nepitism…) Politics today is so much more about showing differences, incremental change, “at least it is not X” than establishing policy based on principle. An enforced policy based on principal would undoubtedly leave someone or thing “out”. The one or thing would have to alter behavior to qualify, operate illegally or cease. This upsets people, they protest against “discrimination” and “exceptions” are made and the policy is weakly enforced and the items meant to be prevented, are not. Then the cries of “We need to do something” start and a “NEW” policy is created starting the cycle over again.
The challenge is to not vote in anger or against the status quo to teach a lesson. All the Dems say is “We are going to help/protect you!” “Those dirty rotten so and sos.”
The Republicans have not lived up to the challenge.

  19. That we investigate these charges and spend so much time refutiating them validates for the opposition the effectiveness of the tactic. Are the Congressional Black Caucus, the NAACP and the black panthers racially devisve and bigoted by definition? Of course they are, and they need to be called on it over and over untill the organizations are disolved. That we may “know them by the content of their character, not the color of their skin.” I wonder why the NAACP and the Congressional Black Caucus haven’t embraced their white brethren and invited them in to the fold?
We shouldn’t defend these outrageous charges but redirect the true nature of the charges against the bigots that make them.

  20. You said it, Kurt. The hard part is finding decent, honest, hard-working, ethical, competent men. Our head hand has gotten so careless in his open theft from us he’s going to have to be fired as soon as he finishes putting the new roof on. In Texas, in July, this will give him a small foretaste of hell. I am angry, of course, and so very, very hurt.

  21. Lynne, you may have restricted mobility but you aren’t handicapped! You’re right, too, Pekinese are fierce dogs, and they aren’t all that small, either. I was musing about dogs suitable for apartment use, mostly. Hugs, Linda

  22. Chuckle…gotta love th’ Reverend David Manning discussing the “long-legged Mac daddy.”

  23. The color of their skin isn’t nearly as objectionable as the content of their character.

  24. No don’t get me wrong I Love my little “Pekes” Not stupid and very loud. Mine aren’t yappy at everything. There is always something they bark at, it maybe a cat but it’s something! I think in an apartment they would make good alarms, and I know they are tough for all puffball appearance. They just are limited by weight not heart.
I’m think a chow cross would make a good SHTF dog. Small enough to play in the backyard, without daily walks. But big enough and ornery enough to protect his person. But I like several other breeds I just can’t justify penning up most of the working breeds. I have always gotten along with terriers and pit bulls. I’m in charge and I am the “Alpha Bitch” as far as packs are concerned. I maybe open to a “European German Shepard” they are smaller compared to most in the USA.
Now Linda you start reciting history and what MLK said and you will be branded a terrorist. That assumes you haven’t been already. :)

  25. Can you just imagine Lt.Col Allen West in the ” Congressional Black Cacus”. Damn that would be fun to watch!! Hell the “Tea Party Caucus” Bachman is starting. We maybe screwed but it will be fun to watch who doesn’t join her caucus.

  26. The PTB’s can’t recognise us. Can you imagine the mind shift they must undergo to recognise that the Tea paty is not racist. Or KKK or remenents. The PTB’s must recognize thier own racism. I don’t think they are capable of that. and the soft racism of lower expectations. I do think anyone can do atleast as good or better than Shiela Jackson Lee or Al Franken and if you can run against these folks and be semi-intelligent I think you may have the voters backing.

  27. If we defy the PTB’s we aren’t rational. These folks that are in charge have been told their whole life that they are “special”. Theygot acepted to the Ivy league schools and they are smarter than the average folks. So the average folks must be schooled to be subjects., cause the elites only want what’s best for us. Within reason and not to much freedom to confuse folks. Now I thought Bush trampled enough on the Constitution, but he never considered an internet kill switch. But Obama is good with that. Food police, Obama is good with that, health BMI indexes Obama is good with that. Mandate health care then call it a tax Obama is good with that. Abortion federally funded Obama is down with that. Damn he’s killing the poor babies and you don’t have a problem with that? Hell, do you want to be China?
